Today Em is in pretty good spirits. Taylor was sweet and bought us yummy donuts and coffee cake so we are sugared up and ready to go.
We are pretty calm for the most part. Today will be a big challenge for her as the reality sets in. Various testing, dreaded lab work and numerous consent forms leave us rather unable to pretend the inevitable is happening.
On a happier note, by the time we are done with preoperative testing my sister will have arrived from Portland. We only get to see her a couple of times a year so both Em and I are so excited! Ellen has the huge gift of not only being knowledgable in regards to the medical standpoint of things (she is a PA). But she can handle her stressed sister like no other, and anything else that comes during surgery time:). Emily and I (and tim too of course) are so so grateful that she is able to be with us and stay the entire time so that Tim can ideally go home and manage the boys after the initial critical period has passed. We are so blessed to have her support and that of so so many others!
Speaking of support, I secretly set a few of Emily's friends and youth pastor on a mission to collect letters from all her various friends as a surprise for her. They totally went above and beyond. They didn't just send letters or cards but an outpouring of love in the form of gifts, candy, cards, poems, pictures and so much more! So much that it is currently taking up almost the entire back seat of my van! She is so so so very loved! I am just in so much awe of the generosity of these teens!!
Taylor worked on her own surprise as well. She made 2 fabulous poster boards to decorate Emily's hospital room and remind her how many people love and support her:). Filled with friends, family and even lights she did a fabulous job;)
I can't wait till she can see all of it!!!!! She is so loved!!!
